Karachi, December 10, 2019: Procter & Gamble (P&G) Pakistan was honored at the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) Women Empowerment Awards 2019 held today at a local hotel in Karachi. Chief Guest, Honorable Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail presented the first runner-up award to Mr. Sami Ahmed, Vice President, P&G Pakistan.

The award recognizes P&G's efforts to promote Gender Equality in Pakistan under the P&G #WeSeeEqual umbrella and the company's holistic approach towards empowering women internally and externally. P&G's Gender Equality best practices leverage the strengths of its business operations to address gender bias, enable education for girls and promote women's economic empowerment within its organization as well as through its community impact and supplier diversity programs.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sami Ahmed said, "This is testimony of our commitment towards Gender Equality and another step forward towards the fulfilment of P&G's aspiration, to help build a world free from gender bias, and a world with equal representation and an equal voice for women and men. We are humbled by this recognition and remain steadfast in our commitment to continue our work towards the empowerment and inclusion of women in our workplace, in our communities and in our country, now and in the years to come."

He also shared P&G's best practices on Gender Equality and reaffirmed the company's commitment to the cause. P&G aims to attract, recruit and retain the top talent in Pakistan with a special focus on women by creating a supportive environment and inclusive culture for men and women where everyone can contribute to their full potential. As a result, today women constitute around 35% of the employees at the P&G General Office in Karachi and 36% of the P&G Pakistan Leadership Team.

Through its social cause programs, P&G is partnering with Health Oriented Preventive Education (HOPE) and UN Women for women's skill-development and girls' education in the country. Now in its second year, the program is expected to benefit an estimated 10,000 women and girls over a period of 3 years in areas such as Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Gadap, Ghagger, Muzaffargarh and Sialkot.

P&G brands have been committed to empowering women and young girls with confidence in Pakistan – for example the Always School Education Program has reached over 10 million Pakistani girls with essential health and hygiene education to date.

Additionally, P&G has supported the UN Women-led report on Stimulating Women's Entrepreneurship to enable Gender Responsive Procurement in the Public and Private Sector and help Women Owned Businesses access equal opportunities through affirmative procurement, investment and supply chain policies. As a corporate partner of the US-Pakistan Women's Council (USPWC), P&G has played an active role in supporting the Council's efforts to promote supplier diversity in Pakistan and has provided training sessions for 100 women entrepreneurs over the past couple of years in collaboration with USPWC and WECREATE. Just last year P&G held its first P&G Supplier Diversity Summit - a 2-day training workshop for women-owned businesses.

The OICCI Women Empowerment Awards 2019 were judged by an independent jury who vetted the performance of shortlisted companies and awarded the best performers overall and in seven different categories.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of CEOs, HR and other senior executives from different OICCI member companies, as well as diplomats and other distinguished guests.
