P&G team celebrates Diversity and Inclusion at Karachi Down Syndrome Program

Diversity Karachi Syndrome

Karachi, Nov 4, 2019: The employees of Procter & Gamble (P&G) spent some valuable time recently with children at the Karachi Down Syndrome Program (KDSP). The visit was aimed at bringing to life P&G's Diversity and Inclusion mission for employees whilst enabling them to play a part in giving back to the communities which the Company operates in.

Enthusiastic members of the P&G team dedicated their time to meet, greet and engage with the children in various fun activities at the KDSP facility. It was an occasion for the P&G team to make new friends and unlearn some outdated concepts about Down Syndrome. The awareness session highlighted some of the myths associated with Down Syndrome and challenged society's perception and standards of what is considered normal. It also drew attention to the full potential of individuals with Down Syndrome and their ability to live independent lives as contributing members of society.

“Everyone valued. Everyone included. Everyone performing at their peak. It’s who we are, it’s what we believe, and it’s how we operate—every day,” says Sami Ahmed, Vice President P&G Pakistan. “Our goal is to celebrate our people, delight more consumers, better solve problems, and ultimately grow as a company. So, we’re focused on better understanding each other through respect, inclusion, and making life better inside and outside our walls,” he adds.

"All children need affection, love and confidence. Our collaboration with the Karachi Down Syndrome Program for this activity symbolizes our commitment to this cause. We are proud to pursue our Diversity and Inclusion mission at P&G whilst creating opportunities where our employees can play a part in different social cause programs in the country," he further added.

The occasion was called 'Play Day' and the theme was evident through the high-energy of the children, the friendly environment, and the confidence they radiated through the activities. Employees also learned a lot through interaction with the children and walked out better-equipped with the knowledge and understanding this experience had instilled in them.

P&G's Diversity and Inclusion initiative aims to recognize and celebrate the uniqueness and authenticity of each employee. Every day P&G employees strive to acquire the full value of diversity through inclusion — fostering an environment where P&G people can be their best, full and authentic selves in the workplace. While diversity is essential in all that is done, believing in inclusion changes the game. This belief and commitment extends beyond P&G's walls. It enables its employees to act and make a meaningful difference, such as by caring deeply about various communities and always striving to help improve lives.

Engaging employees in social causes is a key contributor to overall employee engagement and peak performance. P&G remains committed to engaging employees in social cause programs which is also an integral part of its social responsibility efforts in Pakistan. P&G employees have contributed around 2,800 man-hours towards various social causes in the country over the past 11 years. Through active participation and commitment of its employees, P&G is always striving to make a positive difference in the lives of the communities where it operates.
